This
is a Web site devoted to the flowers of the Mojave Desert.
The
main areas that will be covered will be Death Valley and
the
Amargosa Desert as well as the Mojave National Prserve.
There
will be no attempt to try and cover more than that.
It
is a very large area. It covers an altitude range from
-282'
at Badwater to 11,049' on top of Telescope Peak.
Death
Valley and The Amargosa are probably the driest
areas
in North America, and one of the driest in the
Western
hemisphere. Average rainfall is only 2",
perhaps
even less in some spots. Temperatures can
range
from 0 F (-18 C) at higher altitudes
to
134 F (57 C) in Death Valley.
That
anything lives here at all is remarkable.
That
something of beauty could survive and even
thrive
here is nothing short of a miracle.
